REFLECTION
This semester, my class for Usrah Budi is just same like the last semester where we conducting the Usrah online. I feel sad because I cannot have chance to meet my friends from different courses and have the good environment in sharing our thought about the religious issues from Islamic Perspectives. Usrah Budi 4 is quit hard for me because the topic covered is about the Maqasid Shariah and this topic has very wide and the details are more precise and we need to understand one by one of the concept and the position of Maqasid Shariah in Islam. Usrah for this semester is different from previous usrahs because the way of delivery and the journey of usrah is good, more relaxed and very informative. We can learn in an interesting way through activities such as watching videos full of lessons.
Activities during Usrah 4:
- Taaruf session
- Explanation of Assignment
- Videos Reflection
- Movie Review
For week 1, we had done our taaruf with all the members of the Usrah. We got knowing each other such as their background information and our Naqibah will ask different questions for each one of us. It was a random question for everyone. For me, Naqibah asked about what the most important thing for me. I answered “my Family” because I’m a family person which I will prioritize my family first before other things. I am a cheerful person and I have a lot of friends, but if I want to express my feelings or anything, I will still look for my parents and siblings. I am more comfortable talking to them than with friends. If I am unhappy or angry with my family, I keep a lot of things in my heart and don’t tell anyone because it is my privacy and my life principle ‘no matter what happens, never open up family shame on people’. After knowing each other, our Naqibah shared about the assessments for this course.
In week 2, we started our class with the Naqibah’s explanation regarding to the assessment. After that we moved to the first topic which was the introduction of Maqasid Sharia. For this topic, I learnt about the Maqasid Sharia categorized into three which are Dharuriyyah, Hajiyyah and Tahsiniyyah. Daruriyyah is a necessity of humanity needs which categorized into five elements: preservation of religion, preservation of life, preservation of Intellect, preservation of lineage, and preservation of property. One of the examples of preservation of intellect is we cannot, and it is Haram to drink alcohol because it gives big negative impact to our brain’s functions. We cannot think properly and the longer it lasts it will lead to worse health problems. In Dharuriyah, there is a term that Haram things becomes permissible in the state of emergency and not excessive. The example is, we can eat snake in the jungle when we are lost and cannot find any foods. It is permissible to eat snakes just to not starve. Next, we learnt about the Hajiyyah which is the needs of humanity to get rid of hardships and difficulties in life. As example, the used of traffic light on the road is very important to reduce the risk of accidents that can took the lives of many people. Last but not least, we studied about the tahsiniat which is human desire to complete or beautify their lives. It can be we need a big house with high quality furniture to live.
After the learning of the Maqasid Sharia, Naqibah showed us three videos about the relationship between son and daughter with their parents. It just a short video but give big impact to me especially. I cried a lot during watching the videos. After watching each video, we need to state the elements of the Maqasid Sharia contained in the video. We discussed about the videos and be grateful to Allah swt as we managed to understand the topic well.
